Welcome to my on-line store, Maggie Robertson Design. My shop is closed and I open only by appointment.
Patchwork and quilting have become my passion over the years; now given expression in my original designs and quilt making. I usually spend most of my days teaching others, designing new projects and sewing and love it. Some of my designs have been published in Country Threads, Australian Patchwork & Quilting, Country Craft & Decorating, Down Under Quilts and Homespun magazines.
I opened my business, Maggie Robertson Design, over 9 years ago and named it after my grandmother who was a sewing teacher. My interest in sewing started when I was very young and my mother used to say I must take after Maggie. Although not a seamstress herself, my mother was very encouraging and bought me sewing supplies.
In designing quilt and bag patterns my rather eclectic style is usually inspired by fabrics, textures and colour. Sometimes starting with a traditional pattern or picking up on an architectural theme. I have been making quilts for many years and have lost count as to just how many I’ve made. The ideas just keep coming so I expect to keep at it for the foreseeable future.
My work is very rewarding. I love teaching the basics and getting people off to a good start. If they are happy with the results of their first project they will want to continue. I love encouraging people and seeing them achieve. There is a great deal of pleasure to be found in creative sewing.
Patchwork and quilting is an enormous and diverse field to explore and can provide an interest which helps you switch off to life’s cares and woes. You can make new, like minded friends; end up developing new skills and creating family heirlooms which inspire the next generation to take up the craft.
